He was a friend and contemporary of <b>Francis Gibson<\/b> (on this) whose fellow pupil he was with <b>Lionel Charlton<\/b>. <b>George Markham Tweddell<\/b> proposed to cover <b>William Watkins&nbsp;<\/b>(or at least <i>The Watkinses<\/i>) in a proposed 2nd or 3rd volume of <i>Bards and Authors of Cleveland and South Durham 1972.<\/i> Tweddell covered <b>Lionel Charlton<\/b> in the first and only volume and so would be familiar with William.. The 2nd or 3rd volumes never came out but earlier in 1867 <b>Rev Gideon Smales<\/b> covered <b>William Watson<\/b> in <i>Whitby Authors and their Publications<\/i>. <a href=\"http:\/\/georgemarkhamtweddell.blogspot.co.uk\/2012\/12\/john-watkins-1808-1858-poet-chartist-by.html\"><b>John Watkins<\/b><\/a>, the Chartist writer was William&#8217;s uncle.
