My knowledge of this band came from Brian (‘Alice’ his disco I think) from Nuneaton. He sent a letter to use at Hobo (Coventry Music and Arts Magazine) and we visited a disco in Nuneaton <\/span>run by Dream Disco<\/b> and the Sunshine Music Agency<\/b> in 1974. We were over in Nuneaton to find out more about the music scene in Nuneaton and sell copies of Hobo. While there we met a guy called Brian who said he would send some info on Nuneaton bands. (His subsequent letter is presented here).<\/span><\/p>\n

This is what he had to say about Highway Man<\/b><\/div>\n
“Now a word about a Nuneaton \/ Bedworth based band called Highway Man who have had a major reshuffle after the vocalist left to get married. Now introducing two new faces –<\/div>\n
In comes 18 year old Steve Williams<\/b> on vocals. This is his first band, but the rest of the group have high hopes, after the first vocalist left. Don Ross<\/b> – bass did the vocals but now reverts back to bass guitar, but still harmony’s with the Rhythm guitarist. The second newcomer is on drums. His name is Alan Newcombe,<\/b> also making his first appearance.<\/div>\n

Don Ross might have been the Ning bass player and not the Terry Bown of Gregorian Chant, although I was aware of the Bown brothers and the scene in Nuneaton, Ross has always been in my mind. “I don’t remember a Steve Williams. Myself and Mick Ison both joined from Al Foremans Hourglass. When the singer left, I took over on lead vocals and bass. I continued as vocalist \/ bass player until I left the band. I’ve just put a picture on facebook of me playing in Athens with the band in 1974” Don Ross.<\/b><\/div>\n
