A co-founder of progressive folk act <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dando_Shaft\">Dando Shaft<\/a>, when the band broke up in 1972, Dempsey spent time in India before heading to the US, where he joined <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Blue_Aquarius\">Blue Aquarius<\/a>, a jazz\/ funk outfit signed to <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Stax_Records\">Stax Records<\/a>. He also played Latin music with Los Bohemios, and did session work with <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alice_Coltrane\">Alice Coltrane<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Upon returning to the UK, Dempsey went on to perform with a variety of acts including, notably, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Swarb%27s_Lazarus\">Swarb&#8217;s Lazarus<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Whippersnapper_(band)\">Whippersnapper (band)<\/a> with <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dave_Swarbrick\">Dave Swarbrick<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Uiscedwr\">Uiscedwr<\/a> (2005-2007).<\/p>\n<p>He also worked with <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Denim_(band)\">Denim (band)<\/a>, accordion player <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Karen_Tweed\">Karen Tweed<\/a>, Cincinnati-based Rosie Carson &nbsp;and <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Peter_Knight_(folk_musician)\">Peter Knight (folk musician)<\/a>.<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kevin_Dempsey#cite_note-5\">[<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Other artists Kevin has played with include Percy Sledge, The Marvellettes, Mary Black (accompanying her on a 2004 US tour)&nbsp;and from 2018, Jacqui McShee.<\/p>\n<p>In 2020, McShee and Dempsey released From There To Here via their own McDem Records which gave &#8220;them both a chance to explore and record more traditional folk songs and share writing ventures.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Well travelled, Dempsey has performed across the UK, Europe, Ireland, US and in 2013, made his first appearance in Australia, appearing at Folkworld Fairbridge Festival.<\/p>\n<p>Kevin has released one solo album, 1987&#8217;s The Cry Of Love.&#8221;<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: arial\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: arial\">Kevin Dempsey&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/artist\/1zgn9L4aa3XAmWlNYotszQ\">https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/artist\/1zgn9L4aa3XAmWlNYotszQ<\/a><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: arial\"><b><a href=\"https:\/\/coventrybands.blogspot.com\/p\/coventry-bands-index.html\">BACK TO THE BAND INDEX<\/a><\/b><\/span><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The YOUNG ONES c 1965 Source The Broadgate Gnome.
