Ye who understand<br \/>\nThe Poet\u2019s art divine; will comprehend<br \/>\nThe claims of genius; deem not a friend 10<br \/>\nToo partial claims a merit more than due.<br \/>\nI knew his soul, and much it long\u2019d to give<br \/>\nTo earth a treasure that for aye might live;<br \/>\nAnd so he gave us Poems as musically sweet as true.<\/p>\n<p><b>E. Heaviside\u2019s Flute<\/b>.<br \/>\n\u201c<i>Like the old English Minstrels and provencal Troubadours,<\/i><br \/>\n<i>our Poet was equally distinguished as a Musician; and they<\/i><br \/>\n<i>who but once had the pleasure of listening to his sweet<\/i><br \/>\n<i>performance on the German Flute, will not soon forget his<\/i><br \/>\n<i>pleasing strains. But he was taken from us ere half his talents<\/i><br \/>\n<i>were fairly developed\u201d.\u2014PETER PROLETARIUS.<\/i><br \/>\n<i><br \/><\/i><br \/>\n\u2019T is forty years since last I heard the Flute,<br \/>\nBreathed by the Poet\u2019s lips, whilst Music came<br \/>\nForth, as he touched its keys, to raise the flame<br \/>\nOf patriotism,\u2014or, like an Aeolian lute,<br \/>\nBreathed by the lips of zephyrs, rendered mute 5<br \/>\nThe soul, subdued to silence by the power<br \/>\nOf too much feeling in that sacred hour<br \/>\nWhen finest senses all were too acute<br \/>\nFor aught save tears.
