WRITE NOW<\/b> was formed in February 1986 as both an offshoot of <\/span>The Teesside Writers Workshop<\/i> and <\/span><\/span><\/div>\n
<\/a><\/div>\n

the first WEA Creative Writing Course<\/i> tutored by <\/span>Trev Teasdel<\/b> and held at the Albert Hotel, Middlesbrough in January 1986.<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n

The idea had been to form a workshop group for members of Teesside Writers Workshop<\/i> that needed a confidence and skill boosting element to the group. <\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
The group was based around Instant Writing<\/i> sessions and feedback with some of the group providing the stimulus instead of the tutors – as was the case with the course.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
The group consisted of former and current members of Teesside Writers Workshop<\/i> and members of the Writing for Fun course which had just ended. The group was led by Trev Teasdel<\/b>, following on from his role as tutor and had a small committee Patti Smallwood<\/b> (also a prominent member of  Middlesbrough Writers Group<\/i>) as secretary and Vera Davies<\/i> and Viv Harland<\/i> (also a journalist with the Hartelpool Mail<\/i>. Other members included Pauline Plummer, Mel McEoy, Chris Bartlett, Terry Lawson,Duncan Rowe.<\/i><\/span><\/div>\n

Early meetings were held at Middlesbrough Golf Clubhouse, Ladgate Lane Middlesbrough but eventually relocated to Trev’s house in Palm Street,Middlesbrough.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
The group took part in various things related to Community Arts Middlesbrough<\/i> when Clive Rawson<\/b> switch support from Teesside Writers Workshop<\/i> to Write Now,<\/i> including  their Community Arts Festival, Middlesbrough Festival<\/i> and the Write Together Collective<\/i>.<\/span><\/div>\n

It was through this group that Trev Teasdel<\/b> managed to launch Outlet Magazine<\/i> in the autumn of of 1986 with some of the Write Now<\/i> group as editors (some had also continued to be part of Teesside Writers Workshop<\/i>).<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
Write Now <\/i>members who became the new editors of Outlet<\/i> were Trev Teasdel. Terry Lawson, Viv Harland, Mel McEvoy, Pauline Plummer<\/b> – and Vera Davies<\/b> and Cath McKenna<\/b> were involved for the first issue.<\/span><\/div>\n

<\/span><\/div>\n
Write Now<\/i> was an enjoyable and supportive group but the core group evolved into the editorial board of Outlet Magazine<\/i> by the end of 1986.<\/span><\/p>\n
