Trev had wanted to take the idea of the multi Media Society out of the Poly into the wider community and had made enquires of the Dovecot and Ann and Colin had wanted a showcase for local poets contributing to <i>Poetic Licence<\/i>. They put the ideas together and Ann organised a meeting at her flat in Hartington Rd Stockton in April 1982.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\">Trev brought poets and musicians along from the <i>Multi Media Society<\/i> and Ann and Colin brought along <b>Stephanie Wilson<\/b> &#8211; then Director of The Dovecot Arts Centre with a view to having use of the bar once a month and meanwhile the poets and musicians got together to work on joint performances of music and poetry or songs.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\">local poets and musicians. John Mile Longden<\/b> and <b>Peter Stockill<\/b> had been involved in early groups and humourist <b>Johnny Nichol<\/b> took on comp\u00e8re duties. Trev brought along poets and musicians from the Poly&#8217;s <i>Multii-Media Society<\/i> and new poets came along including<b>&nbsp; Mel McEvoy<\/b>, who would later be an co-founder \/ editor of <i>Outlet <\/i>and <b>Stiletto Pigeonetto<\/b> &#8211; a Guisborough poet in the style of &nbsp;<b>John Cooper Clarke.<\/b><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\">Ann arranged for periodic guests paid for by the Poetry Society&#8217;s <i>National Poetry Secretariat<\/i> &#8211; including a <\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\">group of poets from the University of Crewe \/ Alsager&#8217;s BA in Creative Writing.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\">In between meetings poets and musicians would gather at Ann&#8217;s flat to arrange poetry and music or other performances (often around a theme given by Ann) for the next event.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\">The <i>Castalians<\/i> continued to function until mid 1984 when numbers seemed to drop off.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\">THE NEW POETRY SCENE<\/span><\/b><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<table cellpadding=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" style=\"float: right;margin-left: 1em;text-align: right\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-dEe67jKC3oU\/VFvV71jSGqI\/AAAAAAAAChY\/wmHk2tTAQU8\/s1600\/6a0134873eac15970c0134873eb1dd970c.jpg\" style=\"clear: right;margin-bottom: 1em;margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"320\" src=\"https:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-dEe67jKC3oU\/VFvV71jSGqI\/AAAAAAAAChY\/wmHk2tTAQU8\/s1600\/6a0134873eac15970c0134873eb1dd970c.jpg\" width=\"245\" \/><\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"text-align: center\">Dovecot Arts Centre<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\">In 1984 <b>Trev Teasdel<\/b> &#8211; now graduate and with more time on his hands &#8211; agreed to help re-develop and re-<i> The Castalians<\/i>, retitling it <i>The New Poetry Scene<\/i>. They re-organised it along the lines of a folk club with a paid guest one month and a local poets night the next. The first session kicked off with a performance by Bradford poet<b> Little Brother <\/b>who had proved popular at Teesside Poly gigs. Trev took over comp\u00e8re duties and he and poet<b> John Quinn<\/b> did a broadcast on <i>Radio Tees<\/i> to re-launch it, during which <b>John Quinn <\/b>read poems on air to music the DJ played in the background.
