Pamela had recently left <i>Poetic Licence<\/i> and Trev was organising the<i> Multi Media Society <\/i>at Teesside Poly at the time. Trev was keen to start a Teesside magazine and Pam mentioned that Kevin was looking for co-editors as his campaign work was getting more time consuming. After meeting up with Kevin in Marske, Pam and Trev became co-editors.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\">Pam and Trev introduced some new themes to VON including a<i> Poetry Section<\/i> for poems on Political or Social themes; Women&#8217;s issues ( with articles by <b>Fran Watson<\/b> and <b>Judith Richardson<\/b>) and Unemployment themes (by <b>Trev Teasdel<\/b> and <b>Colin Walker<\/b>). <b>Maurice McGoldrick<\/b> also joined to add in youth themes.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-czmswd6fgP4\/VFfDpllbyCI\/AAAAAAAACa0\/FZ1sUS44yy8\/s1600\/6a0134873eac15970c0134873eb1b2970c.jpg\" style=\"clear: right;float: right;margin-bottom: 1em;margin-left: 1em\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-czmswd6fgP4\/VFfDpllbyCI\/AAAAAAAACa0\/FZ1sUS44yy8\/s1600\/6a0134873eac15970c0134873eb1b2970c.jpg\" width=\"280\" \/><\/a><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\">Voice of the North<\/span><\/b><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\">In 1983 <b>Kevin Daws<\/b> linked up with the Newcastle based magazine Northern Survivor which had a wide<i>Northern Survivor<\/i> being inserted into Voice of the North in Cleveland and <i>Voice of the North<\/i> inserted into <i>Northern Survivor<\/i> throughout the rest of the North East.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\">North East distribution but not covering Cleveland. Both magazines remained editorially independent but enjoyed a full North Eastern distribution with <\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\">To mirror the <i>Northern Survivor<\/i> A3 format, Trevor arranged for VON to be produced at the <i>Darlington Media Group <\/i>base at Darlington Arts Centre.Here they had access to typesetting, photography dark room and layout facilities and Voice of the North became an A3 magazine.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\"><br \/><\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\">While working at the Media group, <b>Trev Teasdel<\/b> and poet <b>John Quinn<\/b> interviewed Liverpool poets <b>Brian Patten <\/b>and <b>Roger McGough<\/b> at the Arts Centre for VON.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\">Northern Survivor<\/span><\/b><\/div>\n<div><a href=\"http:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-RB9b1J24BuU\/VFfDwor3s0I\/AAAAAAAACa8\/BevUggtOKJ0\/s1600\/6a0134873eac15970c0134873eb1f5970c.jpg\" style=\"clear: right;float: right;margin-bottom: 1em;margin-left: 1em\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-RB9b1J24BuU\/VFfDwor3s0I\/AAAAAAAACa8\/BevUggtOKJ0\/s1600\/6a0134873eac15970c0134873eb1f5970c.jpg\" width=\"280\" \/><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\">By 1985 VON had folded, making way Kevin&#8217;s more focussed <i>Cleveland Peace News<\/i> and other <i>Outlet Magazine<\/i> a year later. <b>Trev Teasdel, Stiletto Pigeonetto, John Quinn<\/b> (all of whom performed at the <i>Castalians<\/i> at the <i>Dovecot Arts Centre<\/i> at the time, became regular performers for the <i>Cleveland Peace Artists<\/i> (associated with the <i>Cleveland Peace News<\/i>) at venues like Tocketts Mill in Guisborough and other venues around the Cleveland area.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif\">campaign news letters which kept the A3 style and which were distributed free throughout Cleveland libraries.
