Pamela had returned to Billingham after completing her degree in Sheffield and the two set about creating a monthly magazine called Poetic Licence. Initially the contributions came from Ann&#8217;s connection at the Poly and from members of<i> Teesside Poly&#8217;s Multi Media Society<\/i> Poetry and Music workshop run by <b>Trev Teasdel<\/b> and <b>Dave Wood<\/b> along with contributions that came via flyers, posters, local press and radio appearances. The magazine also carried information on related activities in the area and graphics, mostly supplied by Ann and Pamela and, among others, a local lad <b>Brian Gee<\/b> who later contributed graphics to <i>Outlet Magazine<\/i>..<\/span><br \/><span style=\", sans-serif\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\", sans-serif\">Soon <b>Pamela Hutson<\/b> moved on and became a co-editor of <i>Voice of the North<\/i>, introducing a poetry section to <b>Kevin Daws<\/b> magazine and <b>Ann Wainwright<\/b> went on to develop <i>Poetic Licence<\/i> in the various ways we can see below.<\/span><br \/><span style=\", sans-serif\"><br \/><\/span><b><span style=\", sans-serif\">Press \/ Radio and Publicity<\/span><\/b><br \/><span style=\", sans-serif\">Ann and Pamela initially got quite a bit of press coverage in the Middlesbrough Evening Gazette and in the<\/span><\/p>\n<table cellpadding=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" style=\"float: right;margin-left: 1em;text-align: right\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-kqiRgLls4wI\/VEVMKUKCHuI\/AAAAAAAACIg\/Cx8GWcujLCM\/s1600\/6a0134873eac15970c0134873eb2fb970c.jpg\" style=\"clear: right;margin-bottom: 1em;margin-left: auto;margin-right: auto\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-kqiRgLls4wI\/VEVMKUKCHuI\/AAAAAAAACIg\/Cx8GWcujLCM\/s1600\/6a0134873eac15970c0134873eb2fb970c.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"text-align: center\">Mike Hollingworth &#8211; centre<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><span style=\", sans-serif\">Northern Echo (cuttings can be seen on here) and both were on Radio Tees in Stockton a few times (one of the broadcasts can be heard here below). It was Radio Cleveland&#8217;s Housecall programme, presented by <b>Mike Hollingworth<\/b> that played host the magazine&#8217;s monthly competitions. It soon became a popular part of the National and<\/span><br \/><span style=\", sans-serif\">International Small Press Network, mixing work from Teesside alongside contributions from some of the popular poets from the small presses and gaining a growing reputation in many of those magazines.<\/span><br \/><span style=\", sans-serif\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\", sans-serif\">It was at this stage that Ann created the periodic <b>Poetic Licence Digester<\/b> to promote these magazines and chapbooks. In this folded A4 sheet, Ann would review some of the main magazines. Ann also produced chapbooks for poets whose work merited a special collection, including <i>Clown in the Garden<\/i> by <b>John Saunders <\/b>(Middlesbrough), <i>Seasons and Sincerity<\/i> &#8211; <b>Sara Newby<\/b> (Darlington), <b>Now and Then <\/b>&#8211; <b>Peter Fairclough<\/b> (Yarm), Love is a Glove &#8211; <b>Linda French<\/b> (Billingham), <i>Pictures at an Exhibition<\/i> &#8211; <b>Peter Hanks. <\/b><i>Where is the Heart \/ Pot Pourri \/ Tomorrow Sing<\/i> &#8211; all by <b>Ethel Robinson.<\/b>&nbsp;<i>Germinal<\/i> &#8211; <b>Anthony Clooney<\/b>.&nbsp;<i>Escaped Poet<\/i> and <i>Poet Reprobate<\/i> &#8211; <b>Trev Teasdel, <\/b><i>Orange Aid <\/i><b>&#8211; Ann Wainwright. <\/b>Pictures of the anthologies and chapbooks below.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><br \/><\/b><b><span style=\", sans-serif\">(3) Offshoots<\/span><\/b><br \/><span style=\", sans-serif\"><b><br \/><\/b><b>Station Identification<\/b><\/span><br \/><span style=\", sans-serif\">Ann also started a 2nd magazine later in 1982 to cater for the more avant garde contribution &#8211; poetry, stories, articles and graphics. More on this in a separate post on here.<\/span><br \/><span style=\", sans-serif\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\", sans-serif\"><b>The Castalians &#8211;&nbsp;<\/b>Teaming up with <b>Colin Walker <\/b>and <b>Trev Teasdel <\/b>a poetry, music performance venue was created at the <i>Dovecot Arts Centre, <\/i>Stockton&nbsp;in May 1982 for some of the contributors to <b>Poetic Licence<\/b> &nbsp;and Teesside Poly <i>Multi-Media Society<\/i> and anyone in the area. By 1984, it was re-branded <i>The New Poetry Scene <\/i>with a different format and ran until 1985. More on this in a separate post.<\/span><br \/><span style=\", sans-serif\"><br \/><\/span><span style=\", sans-serif\"><b>Poetic Licence<\/b> folded after 1985 when Ann moved to Hull but was briefly revived in a new form in early 1990&#8217;s as a broadsheet and Ann also had a new chapbook of her poetry published and produced a series of &nbsp;poetry cards.
