Probably influenced by early Cat Stevens, or at least that’s how I heard it sung. I saw a TV documentary and that sparked the song. Tony Mojo Morgan, then of the Mick Green Blues band in Coventry 1970, put the song to music, after I gave the band some of my lyrics to try out.
