“In the 60’s I played in several groups, always with my good mate Ron Lawrence both us being from Meriden and went to the Heart of England High School in Balsall Common.
Our first group was The Heartbeats and included the late Bob Hopkins also from Meriden and we played around Coventry area. We played at the Heart of England school first time in about 1963 and I think we were the first rock group to play at the school, hence the group’s name.
There were various other bands that Ron and myself formed including The Kleek and Mondays Children, a Small Faces style band which we did recording at Iver Studios in London, the same studio where Donovan did his first hits as well as The Ivy League. Unfortunately our management screwed things up and our record deal came to nothing.
The last group I was in before moving to South Africa was East Side Protection which included Ron Lawrence and me, Roy Butterfield, a brilliant guitarist who played with The Tom Robinson Band and also Chris Smith who joined The Sorrows when Don Farndon left.
ESP played support to some great groups such as The Jeff Beck Group with Rod Stewart, The Moody Blues, Marmalade, Nashville Teens, Staus Quo and many others.
Great times and so many wonderful memories, a picture of East Side Protection. “

The Harmony Blues
THE HARMONY BLUES – Kevin Moore tells us – This was my first group and the band started when I was at school about 1969 ish. In those days it was hard to get gear because we had no money , we practiced in my dads garage upsetting the nieghbours . We had one mike and dressed in black and defiantly had no harmony. If one of our parents were going out for he night we would practice around that house and so on . I remember often pushing my amp down the street in a wheel barrow. Back then I did a morning and night paper round to get the money together to buy gear . My first electric guitar was a vox two pick up, i bought it from a lad down the hill for a fiver , the neck on it , well!! i think Robin Hood used it to fire his arrows from it was that bent . My first amp was an old radio gram , then id saved enough to buy a Selmer twin lead thirty.
All the members were at school …. i have pictures some where I will try to find them . I was on lead and rhythm . … we also had a girl drummer . The members were Kev Moore. Mick Wale . John Bulldog Harrison , and Mick Ford . ….we had some great laughs .
In those days you could fill your diary playing four nights a week just in Coventry, Nuneaton and Bedworth alone ., if you got a gig in Brum then it was a tour . After about 1 year we split but always remained good friends . [ girl friends got in the way. ]
Kevin went on to play with Bakerloo Line ( a blues band) in London and then in Coventry – New City Sounds.

HARD ROCK
HARD LINES
The above song Fran Pettifer say of the above song Hard Lines – “‘Hard Lines’ performing the bands title track. Hard Lines evolved from Coventry’s ‘Paris’ when keyboard player Tim Constable left. This song was penned by Guitarist Steve Roberts, along with help from the band. I was the bass player in both bands, and we were joined by my brother-in-law, Keith Tallis playing the Les Paul Gold Top. The song was recorded by Grammy Award winning Roger Lomas at his home studio in Coventry, and was co produced by him and Hard Lines. “
